Position overview The purpose of this role is to support the agency and its staff in the delivery of client communications. This is an administrative support role to the agency and is critically important to the overall delivery of service to our clients and partners. At Soda we mix well, always. COMMUNICATIONS & MARKETING COORDINATOR – VOLUNTEER
Communications and Marketing Coordinator Volunteer - Short Back & Sidewalks
Short Back & Sidewalks is a free hair-cutting service for members of the community in need. We work alongside service providers across Australia, providing friendly and attentive hair-cutting experiences with some of Australia’s best hairdressers and barbers as our volunteers. Short Back & Sidewalks currently operates in Western Australia, New South Wales, the Northern Territory and Victoria. Our service goes beyond just giving free haircuts; we create meaningful connections through conversations with clients, and create visibility for some of the most marginalised community members in Australia. The Communications and Marketing Coordinator is responsible for telling the story of Short Back & Sidewalks to a diverse range of audiences. We are looking for an experienced Communications and Marketing Coordinator to help tell the story of Short Back & Sidewalks (SBSW). This role involves a mix of strategy, content creation and content distribution to inform and engage with different audiences about who we are and what we do. The Communications and Marketing Coordinator works with the operations team, photographers, social media team and fundraising team to create a regular and fresh stream of engaging content across the SBSW communications channels. This position is for approximately 15 hours per month on an ongoing basis. Responsibilities: The Communications and Marketing Coordinator is responsible for the following: - Strategic content planning Creating an annual calendar of content for SBSW communications channels, with month-by-month breakdown of content based on SBSW events, special days/weeks (e.g. NAIDOC week and International Women’s Day) and other streams of SBSW content. Planning content that highlights SBSW activities nationally and state-by-state (WA, NSW, VIC), as well as the organisation as a whole. - Content creation and distribution Creating and posting news articles and other content to the SBSW website via the SquareSpace platform. Creating and scheduling engaging and original social media content for Instagram, Facebook and LinkedIn in liaison with Function Labs Social Media Agency. Creating a monthly SBSW digital newsletter that is distributed to our email database with updates about our activities and other relevant content. - Website updating Updates the SBSW website regularly with content and other changes as required (e.g. Our Team, registration forms, etc). - Database management Keeping the SBSW email database up to date. - Brand management Ensuring all content produced is in alignment with the SBSW brand and using our voice. Skills and Experience: We're looking for an individual with a minimum of three years' experience working in communications, PR, marketing or journalism, with demonstrated social media and other digital communications skills. - Assist with day-to-day account management activity, including keeping WIPs, calendars, coverage trackers, and client folders maintained and up to date
- Assist in drafting client communications, including press releases, pitches, articles, case studies, opinion pieces and briefing booklets
- Daily media relations activity, including pitching press releases, announcements, and story ideas to national, local and industry press — print, online, and broadcast
- Respond to phone calls and emails from journalists and deliver upon requests for information and interviews
- Develop regular story ideas/pitches for clients, thinking outside the box to land great coverage opportunities
- Host phone interviews as required
- Find proactive media opportunities for clients when monitoring the media
- Monitor media coverage and report results to the wider team and clients
- Prepare media coverage reports for clients
- Manage your workload to meet client and manager deadlines/expectations
- Assist in handling clients’ social media accounts as required
- Liaise with clients and attend client meetings as required
- Assist with designing new business proposals
- Assist with the induction and supervision of interns
- Handle That Comms Co. internal social media as required
- Generate excitement, enthusiasm and commitment to That Comms Co.’s vision, strategies and desired culture
- English language fluency: You need to have excellent written and spoken English
- Copywriting skills: You need to be hot on spelling, grammar and proof-reading, as well as have a creative flair for producing engaging copy
- Presentation skills: From communicating ideas to your team to presenting stories to journalists, you need to organise information in a succinct and interesting way to capture their attention
- Quality of work: You will need to have a high standard for the work you produce and outstanding attention to detail
- Industry knowledge: You’ll have a keen interest in, and understanding of, the Australian media landscape
- Strong interpersonal skills: Whether it’s over the phone, by email or in person, PR is all about people. You’ll need to be approachable and able to relate to people on different levels within the agency, and externally with clients and media
- Time-keeping: You will often be working to tight media deadlines as well as meeting the demands and pressures of your team and clients, so you need to be able to work quickly and efficiently, without compromising on quality
